Big inning helps Junior Blaze rally for victory

Langley Junior Blaze sit in first place; Premier Blaze second at Okotoks tourney; and Senior Blaze winless in pre-season play

A four-run sixth inning helped the Langley Junior Blaze rally for the victory.

The Blaze used the big inning to defeat the Coquitlam Redlegs 8-5 on Friday afternoon at Mundy Park with the win improving Langley to a B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League-leading 8-2.

Brockton Wickens and Daniel Martin drove in two runs apiece while Colby Ring went the distance on the mound to improve to 3-0.

Ring struck out seven along the way.

Langley is back in action on Saturday when they host the North Shore Junior Twins at McLeod Park in a doubleheader. First game is at noon.

The Langley Premier Blaze were in Okotoks, Alta. over the weekend, finishing second at a tournament.

The Blaze lost to the host Okotoks Dawgs 5-4.

Langley went 4-1 at the tourney.

The Blaze return to league play this weekend with a doubleheader in Nanaimo on Saturday and then back at McLeod Athletic Park on Sunday against Parksville.

Langley is 7-6 in league play.

The Langley Senior Blaze fell to 0-3 in exhibition play after losing 5-2 to the Coquitlam Angels on Monday night at McLeod Park.

Langley also lost 3-2 to Fraser Valley Collegiate on Saturday in Chilliwack.

The senior men’s baseball team has three more exhibition games before they begin their regular season schedule on May 28.
