Surrey golfer has eight stroke lead heading into final round of B.C.junior girls championship at Langley's Belmont Golf Course

Jamie Oleksiew used a dominant third round to build an eight-stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes of the British Columbia junior girls’ championship.

The 18-year-old from Surrey shot a championship-low five-under par on Thursday at Belmont Golf Course.

The par 71 course plays at 6,013 yards.

Oleksiew, a member of the University of Colorado Buffaloes’ golf team, had an impressive third round of 66 thanks to seven birdies and one eagle. She also had two bogeys and a double bogey.

Her rounds of 71-69-66—206 put her eight strokes ahead of her nearest competitor, 16-year-old Alix Kong of West Vancouver.

Oleksiew, whose home club is Hazelmere Golf Course, credits her great round with remaining patient at Belmont.

“I tried to stay really patient out there,” she said. “It is a long golf course. I made a lot of birdies and was able to start off with an eagle (on her second hole) so that helped.”

She is the lone golfer out of the field of 54 to be below par.

The field was also cut down to the top 35, who will golf the final round on Friday (July 5).

Three Langley golfers made the cut with Kathy Lim sitting tied for ninth, Winnie Hyun is tied for 17th and Gloria Usu Choi is 22nd.

The top three golfers following the final round will be granted spots on Team BC for the 2014 Royale Cup Canadian junior girls championship, which will be held at Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club in Pickering, Ont. from July 30 to Aug. 2.
