Defence leads way as pick-six by Kai Thomas puts Langley junior varsity football team ahead for good in playoff battle

With the game tied in the third quarter and the Ballenas Whalers threatening to score the go-ahead touchdown, Kai Thomas picked off a pass on the Langley Saints five-yard line and raced 95 yards for the touchdown.

The Saints would tack on another score to defeat the Whalers 18-6 in junior varsity playoff football action last week (Nov. 9) at McLeod Athletic Park.

Langley, ranked fifth in the province, now faces the No. 1 John Barsby Bulldogs in the provincial quarter-finals with the game set for Nov. 16 in Nanaimo.

Trenton Warren scored on an 18-yard touchdown run in the first half for Langley while Eh H’set Ta punched the ball in from the one-yard line for some insurance.

Kori Johnson led the defence with 14 tackles, including several which went for no gain while Brodie Thomas had 10 tackles as well as breaking up a pass at the Saints goal-line.

The offence was led by the ground game as well as quarterback Sam Colby, who spread the ball out to receivers Haiden Horan, Josh Goeson and H’set Ta.
